Leaving Cathyryne

by Aaron Cantrell - Not entered

By this you'll know my love is true:
There is no gift I would not give you.
There is no gift I would not give
To set you free and watch you live.
To tell the truth I feel such pain-
My burning heart, my fevered brain,
My racing thoughts attest to this:
Your presence at my side I'll miss.
But if thruogh freedom you should find
Your happiness or peace of mind,
And if time's lessons prove to you
Perhaps (I pray) your love's true too,
Then look for me, I won't be far;
I'll wait to take you in my arms.
A love like this can last a while.
Though suitors come by rank and file
This gift I freely give to you.
By this you'll know my love is true.

Reason for writing:

I wrote this the day I broke off my engagement
with someone I loved. She wanted her freedom, and
I guess this was my way of trying to come to terms with that.
We eventually got back together, but we were never as
serious and things just faded away.
