A Poet's Dement

by Raymond Sherman - Not entered

I've been working on a song
But my mind is too distracted
The labyrinth within
Twisted, tied.
Bound by memories, reminiscence
Held by love, hope, and fear
I try my best to untangle the mess inside my skull
Sort the good, tame the bad,
But the knots are clenched and tight.
I sit down to take a breath
To relax and ponder.
But as I sit, I realize
The task set out in full.
Overwhelmed by my own internal world
Emotions flood the banks of reason.
Confusion overtakes my will.
Irritated by my own distraction
I reach for somthing more
Poetic release,
Pen and paper.
Tools lending to untangle
Put in words what words won't say
Force me to sing my thoughts
Into a rythm understood.
Words alone are not enough,
But a single combination
Can reveal a world of silence
Contained in the mind.....
Of a poet.

Reason for writing:

Written because I love to write and all too often i'm at a
loss of words... what i want to say can't always be said
in everyday conversation but instead must be felt by a
reader who may have similar feelings.
