LETTING GO

LETTING GO

June 28, 1992, was the first day I spent getting to know you
Who thought we would become lovers? Who knew?

You shared with me your favorite place on Earth
It was here that our love was given a beautiful birth

You introduced me to your family and friends
If we disagreed, we quickly made amends

We found some roommates and shacked up in a house
We made love in the mirrors, sometimes quiet as a mouse

Parties, fights, friends, wild nights, and Christmas cheer,
Not every memory is fond, but each one is near

A year had gone by and we finally got our own place,
This clearly put a smile upon my face

Together we built a home to call our own
And when we were apart, we talked on the phone

Your family took me under their tender wing
Being accepted and loved is a remarkable thing

We made love and we made memories to last a life time
I’d do anything for you at the drop of a dime

Years gone by, we looked at the discord in our dreams
People do change, no matter how unlikely it seems

We kept trying to put it aside and let love prevail,
But it wasn’t enough, this romantic kinship did fail

We speak of everlasting friendship, yet you can’t look me in the eye
You’ll always have a place in my heart, though I feel I could die

We don’t know what the future will hold
I prayed for you to be the perfect mold

We have to be strong and put this behind
For in time, a new love each of us will find

When this transpires, I know I’ll ponder what could’ve been
I’ll remember the times we shared, I’ll remember when...

You used to look into my eyes before you turned out the light
Put your arms around me and hold me so very tight

*Good Night Sweetheart* was so sweet to my ears,
The comfort of your arms dissipated all my fears

Someday another woman will hear those words and feel your touch
Sometimes I wish I could take back time so it wouldn’t ache so much

Now I must say good-bye to the love of my life
Until November 20, 1995, I thought you’d take me as your wife

But I am
