SONNET 1

by B MILLS, SAGITTARIUS - Not entered

WHEN I GAZE THERE UPON MY FORTUNES LOST

When I gaze there upon my fortunes lost
I often find sentiment unjustly gained;
To know what strife did not meet the price (or cost)
Of these ends lets grief be ever sustained...
Too much fares too little, these times unknown
Before the shrouded truths begin to clear;
For then, when what misty light that be shown
We see not whether the quest be far OR near.
But to rise above one's elated best
Is to reap harvest where no root takes hold...
Perhaps, it's enough to meet these binds (and tests)
In the strongest form which one may unfold.
Where sentiment SHOULD some comfort provide;
Still to this, I'm at loss, thus EVER denied!!
