Look! On the hillside! Dappled green beneath the trees - Crisp winter sunshine!
Reason for writing:
My friend, playwright/poet James Shepard, was visiting me in San Francisco over Christmas. He was considering trying a few writing excerises to get his chops up and I suggested my use of writing haiku to focus in on the work. He asked me how to write one and as we were driving through the Presidio, he pointed out a stand of trees on a hillside. As I looked at the scene, the sun broke through and the vision that stood out for me was the brilliant green grass. We worked on the haiku off and on the rest of the day, with me explaining the basic rules (which are hotly debated amongst english-speaking writers). That night, as I was falling to sleep, I realised that what had caught my eye was not the grass, but the light that had been brightly colored by the grass. We had the moment. rocky heckBirth sign: Not entered
