YOU CAN'T COME BACK

by Lola Cruickshank/Cancer - Not entered

The door opened again,
Silent .. hinges well oiled
As his words -
Smooth ..
For all the weeks in between,
Unspoiled.

I listened ..
Head on one side,
Trying to hear
If, this time,
He had anything to say.

I missed you ..
You look great,
A hand reaches out to mine,
Fingertips graze
As I slip by, half turning ..

You can't come back,
I whisper,
Yearning ..
It's over and done,
Find someone else.

Reason for writing:

Written after I finally came to my senses about a co-dependent relationship, obviously going no-where other than round again. (Stuck to my resolve, too...best thing I ever did!)
