Napoleon's Lament

" Napoleon's Lament: A Letter To Josephine "

I have stood before the hands of time and seized the moments gone.
I have walked upon the sands of fire and touched the gilded sun.
My heart has been an eagle, my soul borne on the wind...

I have heard the voices rapture in the thoughts of mortal men.
Yet, my spirit revels captured in such servitude of sin.
Dare you will to release me when the devil is akin ?
...And all around the conquered lie.

Have you been passed the torch of angels, now and for all time to come ?
Will your caress heal primal rages from the wars that I have won ?
Will your love become my parlour when I lay my weary head to rest ?
...And all around the conquered lie.

Is there safe haven from the wounds of vict'ry scarred across my chest ?
Is there freedom from the consciousness of deeds I must confess ?
Will you still believe in chivalry when there is nothing left ?
...And all around the conquered lie.

Like puppets in the vested power of heaven's mighty hands.
The stars light my uncertain path, so I'll ride while I can.
I will ride into the night until the darkness fills my sunken eyes...

Until the marionettes of despot kings have cut thier earthly ties.
Until the strings that make us dance and sing, slowly do unwind.
Until far off in the distance I can hear the eagle cry.
...And all around the conquered lie.

So, take from me this shallow breath, the journey's come to pass.
I can sense the end is coming from a distant gun, at last.
There comes a time to change, for no one stays the same.
...And all around the conquered lie.

There is a time for seasoned valor, and a time for sombre shame.
There comes a time when all things must return from where they came.
For each, an epitaph of blood and stone to bare his name.
...And all around the conquered lie.

Will you ride upon my chariot beneth a raven's veil ?
Will you gently kiss my silent lips, and whisper without fail ?
That you'll hold me in your honour long after the final nail.
...And all around the conquered lie.

Reason for writing:

Some say that Napoleon was thr second anti-Christ...
