Untitled

Do you see your reality yet?
Like a leaf in autumn,
you float by.
Untouchable, intangible.
You need to be,
but can't be more.
You live as if in a cocoon.
Protected from all the,
emotions that swirl,
around in the cauldron,
of life.

You want greatness,
but you won't be,
anymore than a,
person,
stuck on the floor.
You won't be true to,
yourself.
You won't admit that,
what you do is,
not what makes you,
happy.

Why do we give up,
happiness when,
that is all we need.
I'd rather be rich in happiness than,
rich in money.
I'd rather be poor and happy than,
rich and you.

Reason for writing:

I wrote this poem, after an all night conversation with a person I know. This person is prepared to spend several years in a uni degree they don't want to do, just so that they can get a high paying job at the end. I could see where they were coming from, but I didn't agree at all with the philosophy behind it. So I wrote the poem the next day to help sort out my feelings about what this person was doing with her life.
