Love's Mirror

Love's Mirror

All friends are false, but you are true:
And so there lies the paradox
In perfect tense, in present time,
  Whose parallel extends to mock.

Together on the other side
Of love where mirrors and where clocks
Reflect and mark, reversed, to show
Ourselves as only we could know--

Where all the doors have secret locks
With double keys, and panels well
Concealed, give exit palace walls--
And there where we have come and gone

Twin spirits who have roamed at will
Behind the court, behind the backs
Of kings and queens, behind the racks
For those who dared defy their will...

But now we've found the passage from
  Dark dungeons of distrust, deceit,
Past vain, remorseful mirrored halls
  Where Hamlet, Richard, met defeat.

Freed from imperfect tense, past time,
  Love's light, its parallel, extends,
Strikes mirrors that are faithful to
The images that it we lend.

And of that light upon the glass,
  The spectrum is the one that bends;
Prime colors are the jewels which pass
  Distortionless as friendship ends

And turns to love we wear as crowns
To mock Time's clock in mirror view
Where palace beauty fades before
This look of love I give to you.
