SELF-PORTRAIT

SELF-PORTRAIT

I am the sweater you pull up around your shoulders.
I am the sand beneath your feet
and I am a child's fist.

I am the soft mossy green of summer and the
smoothness of a water-worn rock. I am
the zipper that never stays up.

I am the wrong way to fold a map.
I am the static cling in your hair and
the feather in your hat.

I am every subject of every book. I am the last
bead on your necklace and I am what is inside
the middle of a zero.

I am the wink a man gives his wife.
I am an overcast sky.
I am a canvas.

Reason for writing:

This is basically a profile of myself. It may sound obscure, but you
should really try this technique: start at the top of a piece of paper
and write the words "I am..." Now, just write down everything that comes to
mind, whether it is abstract or concrete. The end result is a list of things
that you may have not realized about yourself. It is a learning experience
Thank you! Love, Cindy Ann
