Excerpt from my masterpiece entitled "Journey"

Canto I: The Trail

(For various reasons, I had to leave)
My hometown, no longer a retreat
Memories made there scarred its streets
So I left to leave them behind
Uncertain of the world I would find

My Journey began on Old East Road
The destined path for all lost souls
Before long, my soul's protest would begin
The souls of my shoes were already thinned

The memories and pain I thought I had left
Visited me at night as I solitarily slept
In the mornings, I opened my eyes
All of their faces faded into the grey skies

Before the conjunction of the Old Trail
I ran into an elder whom told me the tale
He warned me even though he knew I would not heed
Before he left, he gave me a staff he said I would need

The staff was of the hardest of woods
It was, he said, of his most prized goods
Through battles it had survived, so he had stated
And through journeys like mine, it was forever fated

drudgeing on, I followed the waning dusk sun
Further from my family, closer to being just one
Just as black took to the clear night sky
I found the Trail that neither fame nor fortune could defy

Reason for writing:

I submit to you the first 25 lines of Journey, my masterpiece. Currently, it is over seven hundred lines. The reason I wrote this particular poem was to settle an old score between my heart and my soul. I am submitting excerpts from it to various publishing houses and websites. When it is completed, I hope to have illustrations made up by talented artists. Then, I hope that I can put it all in one envelope and send it to whatever publisher would be insane enough to even look at it in its entirety. If anyone is interested in checking it out, or looking at my other works (both published and non-published), contact me or my associates at Dead Rose Productions.
