Across the field a candle is burning, The last candle of a people destroyed. It burns to unite the broken chain-gang Of the prison guard's monotonous task; Fuse the hands parted with an instant thought Of power separated form struggle. The candle that is constant burns dimly. It does not impress flicker, nor impress shadows On the minds of the weary and hopeless. But the flame extinguished is soon reborn.
Reason for writing:
The candle is symbolic of christ, whom by his death was able to lead and unite many people alone and without hope. I'm don't believe in God, but I, in someway I am not entirely sure of, feel that there is some sort of trancendence of the self which can be personified in a word, or an idea of somebody- in this case for me, " Christ. " The people are as I have described them, but don't assume that the chain is life, but what people do in life to hold themselves and others down. The fact of whether christ was really a being of such a nature as he is classically portrayed is irrelevant to me. What is important is the influence that even the idea of some personification of purity and divinity can have such a strong metaphysical impact on so many people. Thank for reading poem, that's cool if liked it.Birth sign: Not entered
