Stop . . . and Think ! ! !

by Carol (aged 16), Taurus - Not entered

The sixteen innocent children,
In the community of Dunblane,
Were subject to death,
As part of a cruel, deceitful game.

Think of the anguish,
Think of the pain,
Think of the fear
That surrounds Dunblane.

What possessed him to do it?
They were too young to die,
Their short lives just taken,
Will we ever know why?

Think of their teacher,
Think of their friends,
Think of their lives
That came to an end.

The patter of footsteps,
As they run out of school,
Is no longer around,
Because of that mad-crazed fool.

Think of the laughter,
Think of the cheer,
Think of the voices
That we'll no longer hear.

Families torn apart,
They are one child too few,
Sadly they won't return,
There's nothing anyone can do.

Think of their Mum,
Think of their Dad,
Think of the siblings
That they once had.

It was such a tragedy,
But now that they've gone,
There's a place in our hearts,
Where their memories live on.

Think of the tears,
Think of the love,
Think of the angels
That are now up above!

Reason for writing:

The Dunblane Massacre took place on the 13th of March 1996 in the small community of Dunblane, Perthshire, Scotland. News travelled fast, and within no time, the entire world was in mourning. Murders like this shouldn't happen, and murderers like this shouldn't be alive. No one deserves to die this tragic way, least of all the innocent 5 and 6 year olds in the P1 class of Dunblane Primary School.

Once you've read this poem I wrote in memory of the young children who died, take just a minute to think over everything, and I can almost guarantee that there will be a lump in your throat and tears in your eyes. I know that I felt this, how about you . . . . .
