THIEF OF THE UNIVERSE

by Penelope Iris/Pisces - Not entered

Thief of the Universe
what is your name
why do you not walk the night
clothed in black
that I may stay near the light
and avoid you
appear in all your ugliness
in the light of day
that I may beware of you
known of your coming
hide who and what I love
tuck them away
out of your wretched grasp
you reach so deeply
into my heart
like a friend or lover
I feel I must know you well
but cannot see your face
I know you by the searing pain
you leave behind
an empty space
quickly turning cold
wind whistling through
like winter in the north
where spring takes so long to come
though I despise you
you leave me lonely
you take part of me with you
sucking out the breath
turning to dust
it ceases to exist
a fragmented self
but breathing and alive
waits alone
for spring and its promises.

Reason for writing:

The reason I wrote this poem was basically for self therapy - after one too many losses. I submitted it so that someone else could be inspired to get out their rage and to allow hope to surface.
