World Events

by Bruce Curley - Not entered

At those moments,
when your wife
actually walks
out the door

or the prime minister
is assassinated

or this natural
or that man-made
disaster starts

it is so easy to say
"That doesn't affect me!"

but like
the threads of a web
some alien spider

has been weaving
for years
(with your name
on each thread)

that event
will get in your face
longer and harder

than any punk
hopped up
on crack

because
it is
you

deciding
it is
meaningless

and the world
deciding for you:
"No. This will
affect you!!!"

and when
you laugh
and say,
"Yeah!, sure,
Bite me!!!"

rest assured
you will
be bitten.

and not
in the place
you grabbed

but
in the place
that the world
will grab

and your throat
and your wallet
and your mind
and your soul

will never
fully
recover.
