A Response by the New England Nun*

by Lawrence J. Henriques, the Snowman - Not entered

Love is just another word,
So seldomly said, or ever heard,
Stricken from my vocabulary,
I just can't understand,
Why so many walk hand in hand,
And why they want to marry,

They say they are in love,
And it came from up above,
But i don't know what they mean,
They say someday, I too, will be in love,
Though now it seems unforeseen.

They say being sad is only a fad,
And now the 'in-thing' is to be happy,
I said, "I'm quite content,
with how my time is spent,
And I don't ever plan to marry.

Reason for writing:

author's note: * the New England Nun was a short story where a lady's love left for Alaska to seek a fortune and was to return for her and marry her. By the time he became wealthy, she had already become accustomed to being on her own, and no longer wanted to marry.
