Willpower

by Barbara Shieffer - Not entered

Willpower...
Is elongated by desire.
And I have found...
Yes,I have found...
That...
Sheer, brute determination
Is never enough.
No--
You must want...
Yes, and if you want...
You will gain what you have craved for...
Only if you have craved it
In the very depths of your soul.
And then--
Only then...
Will you achieve
The goal you've set to conquer.

Reason for writing:

Before I wrote this poem I had watched the movie "Man
Without A Face", featuring Mel Gibson. A strong underlying
theme of that movie was willpower.
After watched the film, I had gone into the livingroom to
play piano. As I ran my fingers across the keys, caressing
them lightly, it occured to me the so many things-- master-
ing an instrument, finding the right career, finishing
school, and for some just living-- require a tremendous
amount of willpower;more then sometimes even we can com-
prehend. thus the fuel for the fire of my poem.
