An Ordinary Day

by Lawrence J. Henriques, the Snowman - Not entered

It began an ordinary day,
Not unusual in any way,
October softly came and went,
November had not yet been spent.
All was right within this world,
When you were here, my precious girl.

No snow this fall, not yet today,
The squirrels gather nuts and play,
And the birds sing melodious song.
Winter is coming, it won't be long,
All this seems normal, happy and true,
But how ordinary can a day be without you?

Since that moment, when you were away,
The squirrels have stopped and do not play,
The birds are without a melodious song,
And winter knows, something is wrong,
All this is because it is sad and blue,
What life can there be, in a day without you.

Reason for writing:

Jean Louise, in Sidney, British Columbia, Canada, though not there with you, I will carry you within my heart until you and I are no longer apart.
