expanse

by Jon / Capricorn - Not entered

"keep your eyes on the road"
she spoke
reaching out for the bright ember
held out in the dark of night
and the great american expanse
of grey asphalt
loomed before the ethereal glow
of headlights
capturing the very essence
of freedom's child , travel ,
the diamonds in all their
various shapes and sizes ,
a pathway to angelic inner
soul food ( for thought
and thinking persons )
"picture this"
said I
me , you , space , bliss
and
    meaning ...

Reason for writing:

I really don't know what inspired this poem .
It could be the recent loss of my car in an accident ,
or the impact of the Beat poets I've been reading recently ,
or maybe a potent mixture of both . Whatever the case may
be , I've really been itching to submit some of my work
and this page has given me an outlet at last .
