The Four Seasons

by Marianne - Not entered

Winter - with snow on the ground
retired folk are Florida bound
abandoning the blizzards, the bitter cold
in search of high temperatures, and sun of gold
Whereas happy children gambol, and play
what better way to spend the day
They'll build snow castles, and have snowball fights
drink hot chocolate at the end of the night.

Spring - the blossoming of wild flowers
fresh-cut grass, and sun showers
caterpillars transform into butterflies
billowing clouds swim in the bluest of skies
keeping busy in the garden with a hoe, and a rake
Spring fever, Spring cleaning, and Spring break
jumping in puddles, chasing a rainbow - or two
walking on grass after the morning dew.

Summer - sailing, swimming, camping, biking
sun-bathing, barbeques, jogging, and hiking
taking the youngsters for a day in the park
walking along beaches long after dark
watching the stars twinkle...no need to speak
children laughing, playing hide-and-seek
poison ivy, poison oak, wasps, hornets, bees
just a few things to beware of when hiding near trees.

Autumn - leaves change colours before falling to the ground
no grass, or flowers to be found
birds fly south, the trees are bare
when strolling at night...take a sweater to wear
lovers on a porch swing, admiring the moon
all is quiet - except the loon
squirrels gather nuts, groundhogs set to hibernate
preparing for Winter - before it's too late.
