IF ONLY I HAD JUMPED It was the mid-fifties, "We like Ike"---"I love Lucy" McCarthy sucking dry the cow of patriotism Playing Russian Roulette Every chamber laoded with hearsay "Hey! Hey! you can't say it wasn't so---Joe" The truth took a big bite out of his ass We slept much better, listened to Elvis, wearing our poodle skirts, kissing our sweetheart at Niagra Falls Most us young baby-boomers watching---'Superman' Each night I'd dream of having super powers Hitting a baseball one handed out of Yankee Stadium Riding the "Blue Steak" with my eyes open After a bath a large 'S' appeared on my towel In just my shorts I opened the second floor window Anxious to fly around the city once or twice Before I could fly out---my dad pulled me back in while I kicked and screamed He nailed the window shut--- It took me a lifetime to realize that only once, if ever---do we risk everything on doing the impossible
