"Doubting Friends"

by Rasheed, Scorpio - Not entered

When we first met, it was love at first site.
As time grew on, I wondered if it could be.
There were times when I doubted myself just
So that you would be right.

Much wiser than I, you looked down
Upon me. Although I ignored that
Age was anything but a number.
I did say that I did love thee once.

To look at the girdled tree reminds
Me of nothing less than pain, extreme
Pain. Life without you will never be
The same, but the tree has already fallen.

The fence that holds us on our sides, holds
Us up in the face of others.
The soil beneath our feet keeps
Us from collapsing to our knees

And the sky above, watches us very
Carefully, but as not to disturb the
Natural occurances of everyday life.
For the others who watch, also judge.

For the water around us, it washes us
Clean so as not to wake up with the
Sins from the night before. Let us
Wash ourselves clean and become new again!

Reason for writing:

My reason for writing this "poem" is because of a lost friend. We were the best of friends and over time, I began to realize that she was not the same person that I knew.
I didn't know what to do. We fought, but it didn't help much. Now we do not speak to each other nor do we acknowledge each other's presence when we do see each other.
I still care for her, but there are times when I want to smack her silly.
