Gray George

by Nina Villavicencio - Not entered

No matter how hard he tried
His eyes just couldn't stay dry
& when everyday he'd stare at the phone
Hoping someone would call
Because he was so all alone
He laughs with others around
But when he cries, no one's there
& the burden grows too heavy to bear
Like someone trying to hang on
But no one throws down a rope to grip
& everyday is just a lonely trip
Where his face flashes a big grin
A mask of happiness when he's really not
Trying to smile but somehow forgot
He pretends he has friends in his dreams at night
& they love him, but only in his mind
So that when he'd open his eyes, none of them could he find
In all his attempts to escape from this
He simply hid the clouds inside of him
Trying to forget the rain
But everyday in the midst of the pain
He'd stumble & fall
& no one was there
Because everyone was happy
& everyone was blind
& everyone had someone to hold on to
Except him
