Sidewalk Weeds

by Natalie J. Case - Not entered

The wind blows cold through broken windows,
winter comes on relentlessly,
stalking me, filling me.
The drum beats loud, unbearably,
shaking the ground beneath my feet,
angry, rhythmic, raging heat.
The day is over and I wait,
regretting it, hating it, and me,
justice will come to be.
In the daylight death hides unknown
and darkness breeds our darkened deeds,
growing up like sidewalk weeds,
into places never meant for life.

Reason for writing:

this is one of those poems that sort of leaks out of my pen after a long day
when the need to write makes me pick up the pen, but I haven't much to say,
sometimes my emotion takes control...
