Moon

by Jenni Balsam - Not entered

I am your heavy metal ballad.

Paper weight, wades
our chests and night swimmers and suicides and
these lips like

the lips of an ocean.
Untying beast from beauty
Defying burden from grace

and we are heavy
in silence, waiting
for the eventual light,
light of the moon to shine

to guide. me with
deadweights in my
skull
My spine, a stranger
to my own body and yours and mine
and you

you kissing like petals out of season
metal fists out of bloom

So our paper muscle chests,
denying the weight
colliding with space

kissing and dancing and dying with light,
Gracefully.

Reason for writing:

I wanted to write a completely lyrical poem, something that lets the images tell the story (if there is one.)
I am submiting it to you because my writing instructor reminded me that I am graduating college this year and should submit as much as I can. He feels it's a good way to build confidence before entering the real world of poets with degrees in Writing!!
