Whispers in the Battle

by Michelle McClellan - Not entered

The soldier looked around him,
As the battle waged on and on.
No more a merry victory,
No more a merry song.

Tired and weary he dragged his feet,
Throughout the blood stained land.
The weight of his sword light at first,
Grew burdensome in his hand.

Stumbling there he hardly knew,
The hand that helped him up.
The same on then that when he thirst,
Was present with a cup.

Again he fell but now for pain,
A blow into his side.
The blood that flowed so near his heart,
Rushed out within a tide.

There, again. A gentle touch,
A whisper in his ear.
A bandage for the wounded side,
A word to calm all fear.

Where it came the man knew not,
The whisper from his core.
"You may have lost some battles,
But you won't lose the war!"

Somewhere a prayer has been sent,
To Him the God above.
May his arms right now protect,
Forever within His love.

Reason for writing:

I was watching a friend go through a hard time in his life so I wrote it for him. If it helps anyone with their troubled times, it will have accomplished its purpose. God bless.
