Petrarchan Sonnet IV

by Cory Bogner {Pisces} - Not entered

If this is the best of all possible worlds
I shudder to think of any other place.
If you could see the pain present in my face
Or watch as my dreams unfurl
You'll understand why this earth is no pearl.
Now I know why Burns stated his case
That the best laid schemes o' mice and men are laid to waste.
My optimism is sunk and on top pain is hurled.

Don't be fooled by foolish men
Reciting their story-book endings with fairy tale lines.
They are unaware of what lies ahead, the brutal cost
That their hearts will pay when
Their dreams are discarded like orange rines.
Life is pain and rejection and loss.

Reason for writing:

Just the ever-present pessimist in me, probably just bitter that
my girlfriend dumped my ass.
