A Place As Old As Time

by Barron J. Parker (Taurus) - Not entered

I dream of the pyramids and golden sand
I dream of you and I in a far off land
In a place where civilization was born
A place now looked upon by the western world with distaste and scorn

A place that I am drawn to, a place that I must go to
And someday I will make that journey with you
A feeling that's timeless and hasn't changed in thousands of years
Through wars and outsiders, generations of anger and tears

Always reborn from the ashes of the old
A place as wonderous and vast as the stories I've been told

Reason for writing:

This poem was inspired by a very detailed dream that I once had about Egypt. Though I have never been there, this dream was so intense that it felt real. The intensity was not frightening or even strange, everything in the dream somehow felt comfortable and familiar as if I had been there before somehow. I have read books about the places that I dreamed of but the other details of the dream were filled in so completely that it made a the entire experience real. After I had this dream I later researched what I could remember, strangely enough it was almost exactly as I dreamed it and I had never looked this particular information up before. I believe that it's a spiritual need to go, like completing part of a puzzle and someday that part will be completed.
