Alone

by David Guthrie -- Gemini - Not entered

She watches him from afar
In a place that man has not seen
Dreaming of a life that can no longer be
Lightning strikes a cold hard truth in this reality

Alone, in his room, he is crying
Labels himself murderer, the sorrowful wind sighing
Was it her own life she took, or was it his?
His newly-found loneliness shatters the silence

There is a sad truth to face here,
For when he is gone, he wont see her.
Or, perhaps, she wont see him -- she took her path blindly
He refused her, but she is punished for trying

Forever he will have to wonder --
Would life be any better if his answer was 'yes'?
Of course it would be -- knowing the consequences
But he had no idea that this was all just a test

She wanted to love him, he already did
To him she was family, his only best friend.
Why did she want to be part of his life?
The answer he gave resulted in her end

The years pass by, and he feels much better,
Remembers the times, the feelings, the memories.
But how everything happened still seems like a mystery,
that the person who's alive now is not her, but me.

Reason for writing:

I wrote this in memory of my best friend Melissa Vinson.
