Requiem

by Thomas Lee Rhymes (Cancer) - Not entered

In the living of our love
we have stumbled in its dark
cataloged and classified
each careless, cruel remark

and let the whims of others
block the Passion, we did share
covering the budding bloom
of Love's Emotions there

in the living of our love
we placed our standards high
and felt betrayed, when we exposed
our frail - too human - side

as if the letting go of "self"
would be the Coup de Gras
and we would slip away as if
we'd never lived at all

in the living of our love
I've lived, as naught before
and loved, as neither God nor Man
has yet, to ever explore

I've opened passages within
which decades had but sealed
and spent my heart's desire
the depths, my Soul's revealed!

In the living of our love
I've given all to you
holding nothing back but shame
for what I've had to do

Yet, even that can not resend
the fire burning softly here
Desire, yearning softly here
for you, within my heart, again

C 1996 Thomas Lee Rhymes - written 12/15/96

Reason for writing:

Relationships die - sometimes they die hard. Love, regardless of its Passion, has to be lived. If one partner can not do this, the relationship is doomed.
If one is not willing to give up part of themselves for the relationship, then, it is not worth it. It is unfortunate, for me, that I met someone who was and is unwilling
to let go of "herself" and her attitude about relationships. For a moment in Time, there was something very special between us.
