The Timid Reindeer

by Michael Dowdin - Not entered

Santa had one reindeer, who was scared, Wes.
He was freighten of his own shadow; what a mess.

Santa and Mrs. Claus worked on him with no luck.
Often hugging him and offering Wes one buck.

They even enlisted his brothers and a close friend.
One thing for sure, this situation had to quickly end.

Santa gave him a boom box, a football, and paint.
But Wes said, "dad, I am a red chicken; I can't."

"You see, I don't have faith or any confidence."
"Sometimes, I think my round head is just dense."

"Whenever I try to think, it leaves the other side."
"Then all I want to do is run somewhere and hide."

"Listen my beloved son, your brain is not all mush."
"All you need to do is be strong and just hush."

"It's ok to say that you are running scared; it's fine."
"There is a narrow piece of string between that line."

"Often times, we have to stand and face our fears."
"Grinding our teeth and fighting back our warm tears."

"Whenever trouble comes around the corner; your way."
"Make a mean face and flex your arms that very day."

"You will began to see what a difference it will make."
"To feel the hurt and pain that you can easily take."

"You'll be able to face many problems and any situation."
"Weening yourself from any help, screams, or protection."

"Then you can smile and face this harsh cruel world."
"And skip-to-my-Lou merrily smiling at the prettiest girl."

Wes said, "thank you dad, I can be brave and not fight."
"But, if I have to; I will flex my arms with all my might."

"I am glad that you have taught me this important speech."
Santa said to him, "you will never get too old to teach."

After that Wes had learned something with a big smile.
Grinning like a coon in a strawberry patch shining for a mile.

Reason for writing:

Santa has taught his son an important lesson. That it is ok to
be scared. Being brave is to love first, then solve the problem.
We adults can learn from this as well. "A smile given is a smile
returned." This is a poem from my Christmas collectiion. "Have
a Merry Christmas." Marva L. Dowdin
