Lost

by Kerry A Nitz - Virgo - Not entered

I can't stop thinking
Of the image and the damage done,
That endless sinking
Under that cold and merciless sun;
Remembering what's lost
While forgetting what remains,
And counting the cost
Of those old heartfelt pains.

I don't want to forget
Those images from long ago,
Those I had never met
And those I could never know;
Remembering what wasn't
While ignoring what could be,
And living in the present
With thoughts of what isn't me.
