I can't stop thinking Of the image and the damage done, That endless sinking Under that cold and merciless sun; Remembering what's lost While forgetting what remains, And counting the cost Of those old heartfelt pains. I don't want to forget Those images from long ago, Those I had never met And those I could never know; Remembering what wasn't While ignoring what could be, And living in the present With thoughts of what isn't me.
