it ends like this

by Thomas Lee Rhymes (Cancer) - Not entered

It ends like this:
the road becomes a path
the strong become the weak
Love becomes Blasphemy
and Death is a Prayer

Has there ever been
a time in our time together
that anything done for you
was accepted with love?

Or, have the moments
we spent together
been only that -
moments -
with no lasting effect
on your Spirit -
your Soul?

It ends like this:
the flowers wither and die
the cards become landfill
the Love - a memory
and the poetry - forgotten

And through it all
I have stood by
and watched it drain
away as Life among the dying

Once, I argued
once, I tried to save it
Now, it is better to let go
better, to let it die in peace

It ends like this:
the road becomes a path
the strong become the weak
Love becomes Blasphemy
and Death is a Prayer

c1996 Thomas Lee Rhymes - written 12/96

Reason for writing:

In most relationships, failed or successful, there are precious moments that remain long after the thrill has gone.
Unfortunately, this was not the case in this instance. Some people do not remember the love given to them during the course of an affair.
They close their mind's eye to what transpired and refuse to see the beauty that was once a vital part of their existence. And the one, left behind, has to deal with this - has to hold on to the feelings for BOTH of them.
To me, that is not fair - not fair at all.
