The Promise

by Elle - Not entered

Whispered moments of long ago
Continue to haunt my heart and soul.
A faded memory lingers in my mind
A ghostly vision of a woman
Whose face so resembles mine.

Before the angels took her in their embrace,
With the warmth of her hand turning cold
An oath departed from my lips;
A promise to never forget
The time we spent together.

Yet with the passing of the years
My remembrance of her slowly fading
Like the moon after the sun breaks.
To not remember her as I once did
Casts a shadow over my heart.

I cannot quite remember her loving touch,
Or the way she held me when I cried,
Or her enchanted lullabies that once filled my ears.
Fragments of faded memories,
Echoes of the past that I once knew.

A cry rises from the depth of my soul...
Please do not let me forget the way
Her eyes sparkled like diamonds or
How her smile was as bright as the sun.
These memories are my life¹s blood.

Yet I know I will see her again
When it is time for me to part.
Her embrace will welcome me
Into the heavenly light above
For she is my angel.

Reason for writing:

The passing of my Grandmother was the inspiration for this poem; a wonderful woman who will always be in my heart.
