Extra Special Sister

by Kay Evans Neal-Moonchild - Not entered

My heart is broken,
My face is wet
With tears for words unspoken.
You have departed, and yet
You are still here.
In my memory's eye
I see you everywhere
And I wonder why...
You have left me.

I kissed the rose I placed on your grave.
The time was at hand for me to be brave
While the fowl on the pond cried for my plight.
You were just too tired to continue your fight
As wife, grandmother, child and mother,
A caregiver so special, above any other.

Our Lord picks only the fairest lillies from the field.
Be my guardian angel, my extra-special shield
Until I can join you in a life without end,
Together forever, my sister, my friend.

Reason for writing:

My sister Faye is buried on a hillside under a magnolia tree overlooking a pond
inhabited by several ducks and geese. During the graveside service these ducks and
geese made noises that sounded like they were crying...she was wearing the necklace
I gave her that expressed in words exactly what she meant to me..."extra-special sister."
