Formalities

by Alastair Russell - Not entered

We all go through bad times
sometimes a bad life
but why do we wade constantly
through the same shit
left over from previous lives?
Why don't we scrape it off and throw it back?

God only knows where we're going
but let's not stand on formalities
dance a dance on broken legs
shout from the top of tables
reach out towards
figures carved in plastic
stumble into an oasis of fire
crawl past rusted images of guilt
into an arena of pain and vision

Reason for writing:

Like many of you, I guess, the twin burdens of obsolescence and irrelevance have weighed on some of the important decisions I have (or haven't) made in my life.
It's a constant battle!
What do you think?
