Into Love's Unknown

by Dragon31 - Not entered

Here we are,
The two of us together.
Traveling side by side
Into love’s unknown.

The music and laughter
From the back of the bus
Flow endlessly into our ears,
But your beauty and serenity
     make it disappear.

As darkness fills our void,
I feel your head rest on my shoulder.
My heart beats faster.
I know you are tired, I am too.
But I would rather you rest.

Only moments later, though,
You lift your head.
Why? I ask.
As we travel into love’s unknown.

I place my arm
On the back of the seat,
Hoping again you’ll decide to rest.
You do, leaning against me.

You are asleep now,
Not worrying.
You know I’ll protect you,
And I will.

Later, you wake up.
You ask where we are,
And I tell you.
Traveling into love’s unknown.

You ask me to move,
And have the seat to yourself.
I didn’t want to,
But for you I will.

I sat with a friend,
But paid no attention to him.
Only to you.
Laying in your seat, asleep.

I just stare at you,
Your beautiful image.
I gently run my fingers
     through your silk-like hair.
But you don’t notice, you’re still asleep.

We are not side by side now.
You don’t know the ecstasy I feel.
I like you, but do you like me?
I ponder this, as I, alone, now travel into love’s unknown.

Reason for writing:

This poem is dedicated to Janey, who, even though isn't my
girlfriend, is a true friend, and of whom this poem is speaking.
I wish it could be more, though...
