Midnight Rainbow

by Sonya *cancer* - Not entered

It came real all-of-a-sudden
like a broken coffee cup.
One minute silence.
And then this.
There's no warning, no omen.
The Heavens cast bullets of water down on to the unsuspecting Earth.
The droplets fall to the ground with such speed
I can feel the Earth cringe with each stab.
The rain eats away the soil,
tearing flesh from bone,
yet falls helplessly on the pavement.
When the water has assualted the dirt all it can,
it swells to form muddy puddles.
And the Heavens send in the reinforcments.
The walls tremble to the beat of the Thunder,
As the Lightening rapes the electricity of its Power.
I write by candle light next to an open window.
The Natural war is frightening, but I can't pull away.
I shiver as the flashes fill the room with violent light.
I should be scared,
but the storm has hypnotized me beyond any petty fear.
The trouble starts when the wind picks up.
Leading the homicidal droplets through my window onto my bare legs.
The candle flickers.
The ink in my journal begins to smear.
Just as I'm about to give in and go to bed
It stops.
As suddenly as it began.
The rain fades out and the thunder grumbles off into the distance.
I sit in shock of the abruptness.
In a span of two minutes, you'd have never known there was a storm,
except for the smug puddles on the sidewalk
I look to the East searching for the storms lost Power.
And instead,
I find a Midnight Rainbow.

Reason for writing:

Ya know that feeling right after a big thunderstorm when everything's peaceful and the puddles have calmed? Well, thi poem began as one about the storms energy, but all of a sudden it stopped, and I got that rainbow feeling, despite the fact it was the middle of the night.
