DELUSION Just as I was waling by A man came up to me He said he was the only one Who could set my conscience free I asked him what he meant by that And in return he said You are not preparing for The time when you'll be dead Now I'm no fool, but let me say This seemed strange to me Why this man chose me from a crowd And would not let me be He seemed to know me very well Though I'd never laid eyes on him He followed close behind me As the night grew very dim Finally in exhaustion I stopped to catch my breath I realized you can not run Or escape your time of death So here I am, I said to him Do with me what you will As I turned about to face him I shook as with a chill For the only person standing there Was me and only me I realized that only I Could set my conscience free I suddenly thought of all the things That I had left undone And all the things I'd meant to do Back when I was very young The time had somehow passed away My life I'd spent in vain Only thinking of myself And what I hoped to gain God grant me time, I began to pray And I will make amends I'll live my life for others Search out and find my friends And live the life I shoudl have And do what good I can And try to pass this message on To help my fellow man
Reason for writing:
I wrote this poem on August 26, 1996 after an incident that made me think about how fast time passes and how I never seem to do the things that I want to do. I recently purchased this computer and I decided after enjoying others work that I would put some of mine in and see what kind of response they get. I really enjoy this site, keep up the good work.
