Why Did I Wait

by Tony & Elsie Phipps - Not entered

Someday in the future
I plan to go back home
Visit friends and family
I've been away for much too long

My job keeps me so busy
It's hard to get away
But I'm really going to do it
I just can't go today

Vacation time is coming soon
I think I'll do it then
The wife and kids have other plans
Once again I'm giving in

The day has finally come
I'm really on my way
The phone rings as we're leaving
My Mom has passed away

Standing at her graveside
I realize to my regret
I'm finally in my home town
But there is nothing left

There is no home to visit
I'm here but it's too late
Through tears of sorrow and dismay
I ask, Why did I wait?

Reason for writing:

Just thinking about how people procrastinate and cause such pain to others and themselves.
