Old Clothes

by Gbili/Leo - Not entered

Look in the closet.
What's there?
A suit of apathy?
A dress of despair?
Shoes of hopelessness?
Scarves of pain?
And those pants--
saved for when
you gain a pound
or two of life's sorrows?

It's your business,
I know. But your
wardrobe is depressing.
I'm guessing no one
told you hats of
ignorance and jackets
of abuse went out
of style, while you
held on to old stuff,
especially those boots
of self-hatred buffed
with doubt and fear.

Hear me well, I say.
It's a new day.
Try on this blazer of hope
to help you cope. And dress
for less stress with this
belt of pure joy,
earrings of peace.

Change your garments.
Renew your mind.
Take back your life.
And that knife
of disrespect
in your hip pocket?
Hock it.

Reason for writing:

This is about letting go of negative thoughts and feelings, sometimes worn as old clothing, and replacing them with a positive attitude.
