Peace At Last

by Ellen Rector - Not entered

                       PEACE AT LAST

   I SIGH,
         I CRY,
                 I TREMBLE WITH FEAR.
FALLING DOWN MY CHEEK,IS A SINGLE TEAR.

HE'S COMING AT ME WITH A KNIFE.
SOON TO BE A STATISTIC,NOT A BATTERED WIFE.

   I LOVED,
          I HONERED,
                 I OBEYED..
SO WITH MY LIFE,I HAVE PAID.

     NO MORE HARSH WORDS,
NO MORE SLAPS IN THE FACE.
I'M GONE FOREVER,FROM THE HUMAN RACE...

Reason for writing:

Watching so much abuse and violence on television, gave me the inspiration for this poem.I feel for the women that are abused by their mates.
