A Christmas Without You

by 5.31003 - Not entered

We’d arrive at the Ritz
tired from the ride
we’d walk right in
side by side.

We’d get ready for a night
of laughs and dinner,
then we’d joke about it later
when you’d say I look thinner.

We’d settle in for a nightcap
our belly’s full of laughter
looking forward to tomorrow
and possibly many thereafter.

We’d rise rather slowly
moving around like some clowns
after a fun filled night
out on the town.

We’d be off to the Plaza
shopping and eating and being together all day
making sure we’d stop to see Santa
when we passed by his way.

We’d eat dinner that night
at the elegant Plaza III
then walk in the falling snow
admiring the lights in the trees.

We’d head back to the Ritz
walking hand in hand
not saying a word
wondering what has been planned.

We’d stop at the door
and I'd gaze into your eyes
and I’d give you a small kiss
and I'd then say goodbye.

And that’s what it would be
if it could only come true
the Saturday before Christmas
now a Christmas without you.
