The Emptiness I Feel

by Sheila Hightower-Allen **LEO** - Not entered

If you had told me yesterday I'd feel this way,
I'd tell you how foolish...sh, you just don't know what to say.

If you had told me yesterday that I'd feel lost and all alone,
I'd tell you how ridiculous...
leave me be, I am talking on the phone.

If you had told me yesterday that I'd cry at the drop of a
dime, I'd tell you how silly...
this conversation is a waste of my time.

If you had told me yesterday that I'd suddenly get depressed and blue,
I'd tell you how crazy...how in the world could any of this be true?

But yesterday has come and gone and now I know just what you meant,
When the one you love is taken from you...
you feel...your life just isn't worth a cent.

There is this emptiness inside that never seems to fill.
You cry, you pray, you hope, you wait...
but the emptiness is with you still.

This poem came as a result of how I was feeling and continue to feel since my father's death a year ago.
