MOONFLOWERS

by Melanie Scriptunas - Not entered

Mama come outside with me to watch the flowers bloom;
Gradually unfolding in the dim light of the moon.
Mama come outside with me to behold the starry sight
Of Aquila and Orion dancing in a theater of light.
Mama come outside with me in the stillness of the night
To wait ever so patiently for the owl to take flight.
The crickets now are chirping,
The fireflies aglow,
So Mama come outside;
For dawn is closer than you know.

Reason for writing:

    My mother and I live in the woods and would often go outside at night to do things like this when I was a little girl.
