Woman

by Arielle - Not entered

when we speak we are afraid
our words will not be heard
nor welcomed
as we bow our heads in shame
like an object kneeling before an invisible god
we close our eyes
imagining the words were never uttered
grasping at them
as they are enveloped by the thick air
of dominance
pushing us down deeper still
into a welcoming silence

but when we are silent
we are still afraid
though our words are never heard
and our fears never expressed
we dread this eternal ambivalence
this constant entrapment
in a cocoon of hierarchal submission
which only serves to validate their control
imprisoning us in a constant struggle against ourselves
against our words
so it is better to speak
remembering
we were never meant to survive.

Reason for writing:

I am so sick and tired of this hierarchy we call society.
Words are power. I say live on and speak freely...who cares
if people don't agree with you. Just never give up this
power.
