A Child

by Jada Andrews - Capricorn

Once upon a time I was a child.
(we were all children once, don’t you recall?)
I lived and played and acted like a child.
And did things you’d get away with when you were small.
(once upon a time was not so long ago.)

Once upon a time I was a child.
(as we all were once, children, you know…)
And I loved as a foolish child would love,
hoping that we’d never ever let go.
(once upon a time was not so long ago.)

Once upon a time I was a child.
(we were all children once, not for us to decide.)
I took my losses like any child would,
I locked myself in my room and cried and cried.
(once upon a time was not so long ago.)

Once upon a time I was a child.
(I was a child once, and so were you.)
And I fixed things for myself in a very childish way,
I used my friends to make him feel bad and help me get through.
(once upon a time was not so long ago.)

Once upon a time I was a child.
(we once were all children, but not today.)
Acting the way any child would act,
Trying to grow up to be special in my own way.
(once upon a time was not so long ago.)

It’s time for me to put away childish things.

Reason for writing:

This is just another poem in the long list of poetry that
I've written that doesn't really have a reason for being
written. It just sort of came to me, and wrote itself.
Please e-mail me with any comments you might have, I'd
appreciate it a lot.
