Beauty

by Sanghamitra Roychowdhury - Not entered

Plato preferred prototypes, permanency and the realm of forms
Life is ephemeral, like the silhouettes of shadows, the fleeting wisps of smoke
Socrates said a skillful dramatist should also be a comic poet
The stanzas of my story were interwoven with the ink of irony
I was a contradictory study in character, a puzzle of paradoxes.

It was the desire to perpetuate immortality through intermediaries
Hermes, Homer and spiritual messengers between gods and humans,
I was a sophist and this wasn't a typical nine month gestation period.

Saplings sprung from pregnant soil after
Three years of metaphysical conception, after I had
Crumbled the mausoleum doors of my mind.

Nurturing newborns derived from dialectic, intellectual intercourse
The disciplines are mirrors of its invisible manifestation
This was reproductive birth in beauty and I was
Standing on the summit of a sage's illuminated ideas
The pinnacle of pyramids built from mortar and bricks.

It was the synchretism of songs, souls the orators of speeches
Climbing the spiral staircase of an ascending hierarchy, to Heavenly Aphrodite
Our musical notation navigating the scales of discord and harmony
Love was the path that lead to the pursuit of philosophy.

Reason for writing:

I feel that love is the desire to possess what's eternal and good forever. It defies comprehension and transcends all physical boundaries and limitations. This poem is inspired by all of the people I love, my friends, family, and my one true love who always provides fuel for my creative pursuits, and that's my boyfriend D.
