Lifetimes & Forevers

by Vicky Rudd / Taurus - Not entered

Lifetimes and forevers
Both seem to have no end
Indeterminate of time
Until...
Space comes into play
Distance of the body
leads to
Distance of the mind
but never
Distance of the heart
and yet I'm afraid.
Are you like a comet?
Flaring and intense
Visible and close
But only once in my lifetime
Twice if I'm extremely fortunate
Should I, can I, will I
Pour forever into this single encounter
In case there are no more?

Reason for writing:

In January, I was fortunate enough to meet my best friend for the first time face to face. He came to visit me for a week. This poem is a catalogue of the thoughts and feelings I had as I watched his plane land. Reference the poem Dear Friend for the thoughts and feelings I had as I watched his plane take off.
