I close my eyes for just a minute, NO!!! I must not sleep, because when I close my eyes All I see is the nightmare unfold in my dreams The dreams are innocent enough at first. I see flowers and trees and you holding me near And everything is ok, Until suddenly the sky clouds over, And the rain begins to fall, And you look away, And get up and run away from me Crushing the beautiful flowers as you go, And the single rose you brought to me is crushed under your feet, And I cry after you for you to come back, But you don't even look back. You just run, So fast, And I try to get up and run after you, But I cant get off the ground, And I know the end is near. And I see the bolt of lightning coming out of the sky, Headed straight for the tree we were sitting under, Before you left me stranded here... And I know the end is near as I see it coming towards me... I bolt awake out of my nightmare. My eyes begin to drift shut again... NO!!! I must not sleep. -Jada Marie Andrews 3-16-98
